The Business centre of the West Coast – Vredenburg was established by the early settlers, and originally called TWISFONTEIN. As this area had the only freshwater spring, there were many village squabbles over the watering rights and after mediation by the local Church, resolution was found and it was renamed Vredenburg.
Vredenburg today is the main Industrial and shopping hub for the West Coast. Many historical buildings with their incredible architecture are part of this fascinating town and part of the scenic beauty of the area.
In the centre of Vredenburg you will find the Park with the Monument erected to commemorate the peace talks held by the residents in 1875. There is a local arts and craft centre of great interest, and many peroid buildings of historical interest.
Today, Vredenburg has become the central business centre and shopping mecca for all surrounding areas. Most businesses are owner operated, where you can still receive that ‘personal’ touch. Meet the locals and appreciate the culture, the accents, and the good old West Coast humour – local is still certainly ‘lekker’ in this part of the West Coast. Culinary experiences are of the best quality with many diverse eateries, and the pure enjoyment of life and abundance of activities in the sprawling countryside is a bonus in today’s lifestyle.
Flower season every year between August and September is a major attraction where the floral displays are a spectacle to behold. A photographer’s dream where the vibrant colours carpet the great expanse for miles surrounding you.
